The Canon 5DS DSLR Camera is the follow-up to the successful Canon 5D Mark III and comes with several upgrades, including new technology, that make it one of the best DSLRs in the market. This model is equipped with a full-frame 50-6MP CMOS sensor that produces ultra-high resolution photos suitable for large-scale printing and creative cropping. The Dual DIGIC 6 image processors take care of the large amount of information created by the CMOS sensor, and do it with a fast performance speed and assuring top-of-the-line image quality. The 5DS is also suitable for video recording with HD 1080p capture at 30 fps and a Time-Lapse movie function that combines still photos taken at set intervals into a full HD movie.

The EOS Scene Detection System combined with the 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor can produce images with precise exposure and color metering. Sharpness and focus are guaranteed by the 61-point High-Density Reticular AF sensor with 41 cross-type points for accurate AF placement. Canon's EOS iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Resolution) uses the data provided by the metering sensor to improve AF performance. This camera has great flexibility in the size of image files created and selection of lenses thanks to its crop shooting at 1.3x and 1.6x. In addition, a built-in intervalometer and bulb time can take creativity to the next level. To control camera vibration and reduce blur, this model includes an advanced mirror control mechanism paired with a new selectable shutter release lag time. The anti-flicker functionality can correct flickering light sources effects, granting consistent exposure metering during continuous shooting. Although the produced files are considerably large in size, the Canon 5DS offers a fast continuous shooting rate of 5 fps.

The Intelligent Viewfinder II is included in this model to assure stable eye-level composition, with a superimposed transparent LCD which displays setting information and offers a customizable view of focus points and grid lines. The 3.2" ClearView II LCD monitor with 1,040k-dot resolution and 170º viewing angle is perfect for live view composition while shooting and playback afterward. Thanks to its high-transparency materials and multi-coating, it is not affected by reflections when bright viewing.

The Canon 5DS is a professional, multi-faceted camera for advanced photography. However, it is a compact model with the same dimensions as the 5D Mark III. Fine Detail Mode in Picture Style

Thanks to the high-resolution capturing power of its sensor, the Canon 5DS introduces a new Fine Detail Mode in Picture Style. This mode emphasizes fine edges, patterns and textures with sharpness sub-settings, lowering contrast and minimizing fineness and threshold. This process achieves images with more detailed textures, fine edges and better gradations, thus making them look smoother.

Scene Detection System with 150,000-pixel RGB+IR Metering Sensor

The Canon 5DS includes the iSA Intelligent Scene Analysis system that combines with the RGB+IR sensor (with approximately 150,000-pixel resolution) and enables the Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system (iTR) to detect and track subjects, moving the autofocus point automatically for optimization. This system is the basis of the camera's autofocus system with new algorithms that track and recognize faces and colors.

61-Point High-Density Reticular AF system

The EOS 5DS has a fast and precise AF with a very sophisticated tracking performance, thanks to the 61-point High-Density Reticular AF system with up to 41 cross-type AF points. This system adjusts to modifications in composition, with fast changes to make sure that the autofocus is sharp and consistent. The new RGB+IR AF sensor (with approximately 150,000 pixels) tracks subject movements, and the Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system is in charge of synchronizing the active AF with these movements to guarantee AF precision. The focus accuracy of this model matches its powerful 50.6MP sensor.

Advanced Mirror Control Mechanism and Shutter Release Time Lag

The Canon 5DS includes a newly developed Mirror Vibration Control System. This system prevents blurred details due to camera shakes that occur following the impact of the SLR's mirror, a typical effect in high-resolution sensors. In the 5DS, the camera's mirror is not controlled by springs - like it is in other models - but by a small motor and cams. This innovative system eliminates the impact of the camera's mirror, reducing its effects on the pictures. The Time Release Lag setting adds an extra layer of protection against camera shake by waiting for the exposure to begin once the impact of the camera's mirror has been diffused. This setting can be easily found in the menu system.

Anti-Flicker Feature

The Canon 5DS can deliver accurate images under cycling lighting situations thanks to the anti-flicker function. In the context of a flickering light like fluorescent lighting, a fast shutter can create an irregular exposure. Instead, the anti-flicker function can calculate the frequency and phase of the flickering light and capture images exclusively near the point of peak brightness, when the subject is most likely best illuminated.

1.3x and 1.6x Crop Shooting

The 5DS offers a 1.3x and 1.6x cropping feature for still photography. Cropped shots are no trouble with a 50.6MP sensor. Photos taken at 1.3x (APS-H) are approximately 30.5MP (6768 x 4512) Large/Fine JPEG, and photos taken at 1.6x (APS-C) are approximately 19.6MP (5424 x 3616) Large/Fine JPEG. The crop function comes extremely handy when working with telephoto lenses, as it improves the subject tracking capability with almost the entire frame covered with AF points. If using the viewfinder, image cropping is shown either masked or showing the cropped area. In Live View shooting, the image is cropped by the effect chosen. It is also possible to choose the aspect ration between 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, and the default 3:2.

Full HD 30p Movie Capability

The Canon 5DS is designed for shooting stills, but it also supports full HD 1080/30p movie capability, as well as a Time-Lapse Movie function that takes photographs at set intervals and combines them into a full HD movie file. This model supports HD and VGA resolution, numerous frame rates and ALL-I and IPB compressions. Capturing still images during video recording is enables. Built-In Intervalometer and Bulb Timer

The Canon 5DS is designed to take time-lapse fixed-point shots and long exposures without needing a remote control. In Live View Mode, it is possible to display grid lines in the monitor for 9 sections, 9 sections with diagonal lines, or 24 sections. For image review, it is possible to zoom in or out (up to 16x) by pressing a dedicated Magnify/Reduce button and turning the Main Dial. It is extremely easy and quick to protect and erase images, either individually or in batches, as well as create slideshows with images sequenced by date, folder, rating and other features. The camera's menu includes a clear and simple-to-understand set of instructions with reference information.

Intelligent Viewfinder II

The Intelligent Viewfinder II can be used for shooting and changing camera settings without having to lose a shot. The viewfinder shows approximately 100% of the composition, and it can display several settings like shooting mode, exposure level, white balance, drive mode, AF operation, metering mode, recording format, electronic level and more. This information can all be superimposed over the image while shooting, and is intuitively modifiable via the camera's user interface.

Customizable Quick Control Screen

On top of the usual Quick Control screen, the Canon 5DS includes a Quick Control button that allows easily accessing important settings. A choice can be made as to what features to display, and where and what size these should be on the screen.

Continuous Shooting

The Canon 5DS is suitable for shooting stills of fast-moving subjects at full resolution with high-speed continuous shooting at up to 5.0 fps.

USB 3.0 and Other Connectors

The connections for this model include USB 3.0, HDMI out, 3-pin input, and PC terminal. The USB 3.0 digital terminal is the fastest connection offered to send files to PCs and printers, although the Canon 5DS also includes connectivity to WTF-E7 (version 2) for wireless transfer and Wi-Fi compatibility.
