The Canon 5D Mark IV DSLR is an excellent camera from Canon's powerful workhouse of cameras. It is an outstanding option for still photography, also able to record videos in 4K. This camera is equipped with the newly developed 30.9MP full-frame CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC 6+ image processor that guarantee fine details and high resolution balanced with low-light performance and sensitivity. The Canon 5D Mark IV has a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-32000, that can be extended to an impressive ISO 50-102400 to get sharp, low-noise images in more demanding conditions. On top of these image quality improvements, this camera includes an enhanced AF system, built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, and other features that boost its performance and make it extremely comfortable.

The Canon 5D Mark IV benefits from the power of the DIGIC 6+, that can handle up to 7 frames per second during continuous shooting, to deliver detailed images effectively and surprisingly fast. The 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor analyzes the scene and subjects to adjust the exposure adequately in a wide range of lighting conditions. The 61-point High-Density Reticular AF can track and lock onto subjects quickly and accurately, improving the overall camera speed. The newly implemented AF area select button allows accessing the autofocus setting almost immediately.

The 5D Mark IV is an excellent camera for video recording, benefiting from the Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Movie Servo AF to adjust the focus smoothly during a shot. The 3.2" 1.62m-dot LCD touchscreen has a very intuitive functionality to select the focus point simply by tapping. The camera has DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) video recording capability at up to 30 fps, with additional stills of 8.8MP taken directly from the video for an even faster capture option. In addition to the Dual Pixel sensor, the Canon 5D Mark IV includes a brand new feature for Canon: Dual Pixel RAW, a function that allows tuning of image paraments after the image is taken, such as focus micro adjustment and bokeh shift.

The modern body construction offers comfort and ease of access, without sacrificing its durability and weather resistance. The Canon N3 remote port is located on the front of the camera. This model offers Wi-Fi with NFC and GPS.

New 30.4MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor paired with DIGIC 6+ Image Processor

Following the previous 5D series models, the Mark IV offers great balance between low-light performance and high-resolution thanks to the new 30.4MP full-frame CMOS sensor. The improvement in resolution brought by this new sensor doesn't compromise sensitivity. Plus, the DIGIC 6+ image process that's paired with it adds an impressive performance in the native sensitivity range of ISO 100-32000, that can be extended to ISO 50-102400.

The 5D is designed to perform with equal ease for weddings, landscapes and any other type of still photography. The 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor allows shooters to rely on the camera to capture difficult scenes. The sensor also includes a face detection function and flicker detection to ensure proper exposure levels in low-lighting situations. All of this is performed at a surprising shooting rate of 7 fps, making it a perfect option for events and action.

High-Density Reticular AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF Systems

The Canon 5D Mark IV includes an enhanced High-Density Reticular AF system to ensure sharpness of subjects with 61 phase-detect points, all of them being sensitive to f/8 and 41 of them being cross-type. The center point adapts to dim lighting by being able to function down to -3 EV.

The Mark IV offers advanced tracking and focusing when using the optical finder for shooting still, but it also has great functionality while recording videos, like the using the Dual Pixel CMOS AF on the actual imaging sensor. This results in faster and more accurate focusing in Live View and video by offering about 80% coverage of phase-detection autofocus. When recording videos, users will enjoy a smooth rack focusing without the usual downsides of contrast-based systems. The autofocus pairs with the LCD touchscreen functions for a smooth adjustment simply from tapping the touchscreen.

DCI 4K Video Recording

The Canon 5D Mark IV is designed for professional still shooting and video recording, supporting DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution at up to 30 fps at 500 Mbps, Full HD 1080p at 60 fps and HD 720p at 120 fps for slow-motion playback. When recording and saving in-camera, the 4K videos have 4:2:2 sampling and 8-bit color depth and the Full HD videos have 4:2:0 sampling. The Full HD 1080p videos can be saved directly to an external recorder via HDMI with 4:2:2 color sampling. 4K recording uses the central 4096 x 2160 area of the sensor with 1.74x crop, with an ideal 1:1 pixel sampling ration. Full HD videos use the entire full frame.

The camera has an on-board stereo microphone to record audio, and a 3.5mm mic jack for connecting an optional external mic. It is possible to monitor real-time audio through a 3.5mm headphone jack.

4K videos allow taking 8.8MP still frame grabs during playback through the touchscreen, saving them as single images.

Dual Pixel RAW

The 5D Mark IV brings a new feature for Canon: the Dual Pixel RAW. This feature provides a way for fine adjustments to be made after the image is taken, by recording all the information of the sensors' pixel architecture. The adjustments possible include reducing the impact of ghosting, shifting bokeh around to improve composition, and focusing fine tuning to adjust the focus point and bring out extra details. The Dual Pixel RAW feature requires using Canon's Digital Photo Professional 4.5 software.

Body Design

The camera is built with a 3.2" 1.62m-dot Clear View II LCD touchscreen with an anti-reflective design for clear, vivid image play and live view shooting, as well as an intuitive interface can be used for touch-to-focus control and adjusting settings in the menus.

The AF mode selection button in the rear of the camera is another fast and intuitive way to access and change setting options.

The Canon 5D Mark IV includes an Intelligent Viewfinder II that uses a pentaprism design and features bright means for viewing. If the viewfinder is active, the Intelligent Viewfinder II highlights AF points in red for greater visibility in low-light conditions, and it is possible to display other shooting aids such as an electronic level, grid, flicker detection, white balance, metering mode, AF information and other settings.

The camera includes Dual CompactFlash and SD memory card slots as alternatives to save files that allow overflow recording and separiting file types in-camera.

In order to minimize mechanical vibrations and ensure sharpness during long exposures or fast continuous shooting, the 5D Mark IV includes a Mirror Vibration Control System.

The camera's body is a robust magnesium alloy both dust and weather sealed, making it suitable for working in every kind of environment.

Other Camera Features

The Canon 5D Mark IV has a built-in GPS module that enables geotagging images in-camera, as well as auto time sync with the Universal Time Code via satellite. The built-in GPS grants worldwide coverage of support, being compatible with American GPS, Russian GLONASS, and Japanese quasi-zenith Michibiki satellites.

Digital Lens Optimizer technology can compensate for the different optical defects of several lenses, such as chromatic aberration, distortion, peripheral brightness and diffraction. The camera can store lens data to avoid having to recalibrate the Digital Lens Optimizer prior to each use. The Digital Lens Optimizer works in real time, so that the camera can deliver JPEGs with the corrections already applied.

A built-in intervalometer helps taking time-lapse images. It can support recording up to 99 consecutive frames in time intervals ranging between 1 second to 99 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds. It is also possible to set the camera to unlimited frames.

The built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity allow controlling the camera and sharing and transferring images wirelessly with a compatible smart device and with the Canon CS100 Connect Station.
