The Sony SAL-20TC AF 2x (D) Teleconverter will increase the focal length of a lens by 2x, and reduces the lens aperture by approx. 2 f/stop. It was specifically designed to provide full AF compatibility with a select range of Sony (or equivalent Minolta) pro-level G-series lenses (with Minolta, only with Maxxum 7/5/4/3 or newer cameras). For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6.
Note: Due to the high-quality design of this converter (6 elements/5 groups), the teleconverter will only fit and work with a select range of lenses, and only the following Sony lenses are compatible:
- 70-200mm f/2.8
- 300mm f/2.8
- 135mm f/2.8 STF (manual focus)
Only the following Minolta lenses are compatible:
- 300mm f/2.8 (D) SSM
- 70-200mm f/2.8 (D) SSM
- 200 f/2.8 APO G
- 300 f/2.8 APO G
- 300 f/4 APO G
- 400 f/4.5 APO G
- 600 f/4 APO G
Note: The following Minolta or Sony lenses can only be used in Manual Focus mode:
- 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G SSM
- 135mm STF f/2.8 [T4.5]
- 200mm f/4 Macro G
